What Teachers really want to tell parents

          In the Article "What Teachers Really Want To Tell Parents" Written by Ron Clark, Ron talks about mostly is how difficult PARENTS are, not the kids. He mentions that dealing with parents is one of the most difficult things he has to handle. I personally think he is over exaggerating, his job is to teach children, no matter what it takes, that is what he gets paid for. He gets paid to teach kids and talk to parents about there kids. When Ron mentioned "His mother chimed in and told me that it had been a horrible summer for them because of family issues" then tried to argue with that, I think that is unprofessional. He has no idea what happened during the kids summer, for all he knows his dad may have been sent to jail and sister ran away, but that is non of his business. Also when he brought up the child with the marker on his face, that teacher has no right to touch that child's face. It doesn't matter if the kid has marker all over his face or not. The teacher should not touch that child without asking the parent first. I think that Ron should get a new job if he cant handle it and stop complaining about what he was trained to deal with.

               In the article "In Praise of the F Word" written by Mark Sherry he talks much about schools and education for teens. He mentions that teens all over the world are struggling with the same thing, paying attention. Because teens are having such a hard time focusing and taking school serious teachers decided to try a new method, the failure method. What teachers are doing is pretty much threatening there students that they will fail them if they don't straiten up and take school seriously. I think that this is both a good and bad thing. This is a good thing because the students try hard to keep their grades up. Although I think that it can be a bad thing because it can lead to extreme stress, coming from a teenager that can be a lot to handle. So, yes it has its ups and downs but in all its a pretty good idea, but I'm not positive this will/would work for everyone, because everyone learns differently.        

Liquid Armor

               In the video "Liquid Armor" made by the Science television channel, it explains the insanity of turning a liquid into a solid then back into a liquid, all in a split second. This armor was/is being made for mainly prison guards, prison guards have a high likeliness to get shanked (stabbed) with anything and everything. The vest’s they were wearing before could withstand bullets, but not a knife. The threads in the vest would move due to such a sharp point. Although now the vest is a liquid and when anything punctures it, it turns hard before it can get all the way through. I think that this new armor will help a lot with the injuries that happen at prisons. Not only will it help at prisons but it can be used anywhere, including the army. The idea of a liquid armor is a very impressive idea, not only will this save lives but it is also showing how fast into the future we are moving. Although with this new armor there is a minor flaw, if you were to where this armor and get stabbed you would still feel the hit, it just wouldn’t puncture into your skin. I think this is a great idea and will soon be more known, and easy to buy.  Although you can’t buy the vest yet you can make it, all it takes is two ingredients that are open to the public and you have yourself liquid armor.

"What is wrong with the teenage mind?"

In the article "What is Wrong With the Teenage Mind?" Written by Alison Gopnik, she tells that the teenagers of this era are trying to hard to impress each other and not hard enough to work for themselves to succeed in life. Teens and young adults have so much potential these days, the only problem is that they don't know it. Every day kids drop out of high school and college, but not because they don't understand the material but because they want to show off for friend and they just want to stop because they are lazy. That is also why teens do the stupid things they do, because there friends are around and they want to impress them.


While reading "What is Wrong With the Teenage Mind?" By Alison Gopnik, I noticed that she is totally right, the teenagers today are so stressed about what others think about them we will do anything to impress our friends. Although, it's not just teenagers that do stupid things and make bad decisions, grow adults make bad decisions too, for the same reason. It is just more common for teenagers I think because we are going through puberty and different hormones are kicking in. When the hormones kick in it is tough to think about our future when it is so much easier to live in the now. I noticed the picture that was added in the article that showed what goes on in our mind. That picture is almost 100% true. With everything that is going on in our heads it is very hard just to focus on one subject every hour. Although I do wish that the people in highschool and college would open their eyes to see all that is planed out in the future.

MMA

                                                     MMA- Mixed Martial Arts


         In the article "Mixed Martial Arts"  by Ray Krueger, he talks much about how Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a very violent and physical sport. "MMA" became a huge sensation in 1993 when pay-per-view played a fight as a experiment to see if people would react to it. After the first premier people started to find it interesting and exciting to watch MMA. Once MMA started to get more popular it became a official sport. Fighters can now become professional fighters and go to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) that is more popular than the normal MMA matches. Ray Krueger mentioned that MMA is a mixture of  boxing, wrestling, karate, jiu-jitsu, judo, Muy Thai and/or basic brawling. Mixed Martial Arts has been around for a while, Brazil was mainly the starter of the sport than America adopted it. Anybody if allowed to do MMA, but it requires a lot of tough work. The work involves eating the right type of fat, carbs, sugars, whets...etc and physical and mental training, you must work your skills and learn new skills and train almost everyday for at least 2 hours. MMA is not a sport for the weak, it is almost as if the strong live the weak die. Although this is a sport, it is a recently new sport to the U.S and some states aren't allowed to be involved with it yet such as New York because  it is known as a violent state.

What if?

                In the video “What If” by Karl Fisch he talks much about what has been predicted by teachers from the 1800s all the way to the 21^st century. Many people thought that moving toward future was going to ruin our future.  Humanity has been increasing technology ever since the first idea popped into someone’s mind. In some cases that are good, in other cases it is not so good. The biggest fear that people had in the 1800s to early 1900s was “What happens when you run out of what you are using?” Apparently that fear was a fear they didn't have to worry about. Although now days in 2012 going on to 2013 the question is “Will students base their entire school experience around their computers and internet in the future?” The answer to that question is unanswerable; nobody in the world will be able to know until it is happening.

                After watching the “what If” video by Karl Fisch I realized that our technology is moving extremely fast. In the 1800s inventions really started to get popular. First paper was made, after paper the pencil, and then the pen. After a few hundred years we got to wireless internet from our cell phones and laptops. Now days there is a new invention almost every second. How do we know that there won’t be a whole new different type of web searching device in 5 years? Or maybe in 5 years the internet will be totally 100% gone. The point I’m trying to prove is that we have no idea of what we will be using in 5 years. Our guesses could be like the teachers in the video and be totally wrong, or we could be totally right. As of right now we have no idea.

is google making us stupid? (part 2)

                 Many people these days are getting stupider and stupider every day. Why is this people wonder?  Nicolas Carr was wondering the same thing, so what Nicolas did is he did research and made this article "Is Google Making Us Stupid?”. What Nicolas thinks is that Google is making us as humans stupid. He explains this by saying, with all of the articles on Google who really needs to read whole books and stories when anybody can just hope onto Google and read a couple paragraphs so see what the whole story is about. What this is doing is making people’s attention span get shorter and shorter till eventually you will be learning nothing at all. Although it is not just Google’s fault, people choose to go to Google and take a short cut out. So really, Google is not to blame; it’s the people that use Google.

                Through reading this and comparing me with what Nicolas Carr had said in his Article I have noticed that it is true.  Although Google is the main source for information, it is not Google’s fault. Google was made to support websites and be able to get to them faster. Google does not decide what people put onto the web page. All Google doest is displays it so it is easy to find. So it is not fair to blame Google. Now the article on the other hand that is what is really the problem. I think that the articles ON Google are making us stupid. The articles are getting shorter and shorter and that makes us read less and less which means our brains will be absorbing less and less information. So do you think it is really Google’s fault?

High School, Only Shorter

                In the article “High School, Only Shorter” by Nicholas Myers, it talks much about finishing high school in only three years and if that is a good or bad thing. Many people think that it can be a bad thing. People think it can be bad because the young adult wouldn’t get the full experience of life and wouldn’t be prepared for collage. Another thing, not all collages want to enroll a student that has not done all of high school. On the other hand, other people think that it can be a good thing. For an example how it can be a good thing is the young adult would finish collage a year earlier and be able to get on with his/her life. Also if you get into college at age 17 that would look very good on your job application. So you can tell that going to high school for 3 years has both advantages and disadvantages.

                I think going to high school for 4 years would be the best idea. I think that going to high school for 4 years is a good idea because it gives you full experience of life and I think that you would get the fullest education possible you can if you go 4 years. I also think that I have the same chance to get the same education and job as the man/woman that got through high school early. Another thing is I don’t want to rush my teenage life; I wouldn’t want to go to college yet. In high school you get to enjoy being a kid, and not taking everything too serious. In college your kid days are over and there is no more going lightly in class. So I think that high school for the full 4 years is best. Best part yet, there is less HOMEWORK is high school than college!  

is Google making us stupid?

       In the story "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" by Nicolas Carr he talks about the problem that Google is messing with out brain system and making us as humans have a shorter attention span to reading and writing. The internet is a wonderful tool that geniuses have made and keep advancing it to be bigger and/or better. That also means that anybody can use the internet, specifically Google to read an article about something instead of reading the actual entire book. Because Google has that power to summarize anything really and put it into a few sentences, people are losing their attention through longer stories. The problem with this is, eventually people will just stop reading. People are relying on Google to basically read for them and summarize everything. What will happen if Google were to crash and people had to actually pick up a book and read it front to back to finish a paper? Is Google really causing the problem?

      In the story "Is Google Making Us Stupid?"  By Nicolas Carr the talk of Google summarizing everything for us. What I would like to know is it really a bad thing for some help every now and then?  Reading the story made me realize that humanity is changing every day and getting more advanced every day. With all the summarizing websites and sites to go to that make you read very little it’s almost not necessary to just blame Google. Any way the problem isn’t Google or any websites fault, its peoples fault. I think that people are just getting lazier and lazier every day and are becoming too lazy to read a whole book. Because people are getting to be so lazy and just reading a computer screen for five minutes then doing something else, people get board or distracted while reading a long story or article. So in all I personally think that it is not Google’s fault but peoples fault to choose to be lazy, Google is just there to help with whatever you need.

A Single Lucid Moment

      In the story "A Single Lucid Moment" by Robert W. Soderstorm it talks about how much of America and the first world countries take advantage of all the little things. In "A Single Lucid Moment" it tells about the Maimafu Tribe and about how they do everything by themselves. In the story a husband and wife go to Maimafu for three months at a time and stay with a tribe. During there stay the family of two and the Maimafu tribe start to get to know each other more and show one another around. While looking around and getting to know the place the family starts to figure out there living style and how hard work is key to survive. During a long hard day the family shows the Maimafu tribe a picture of two homeless men. The next morning the family was wakened by four of the tribesmen, that the tribesmen wanted to fly the homeless people out to stay with them to learn how to take care of themselves. Little do the Maimafu tribe know it cost more money than they think to send out two homeless men all the way out to New Guinea for a couple of months.
      In "A Single Lucid Moment" it shows how much we take for granted. I know that if I lived in New Guinea things would have to change a lot. Because I am raised in the first world, I would not have the experience or knowledge of how to live the way that the Maimafu tribe does. In the story the Maimafu tribe wants to send two homeless men to New Guinea to live with them. The tribe doesn't know that it will cost a lot of money just to send two people out. Even if the Tribe did get the homeless people to New Guinea it would be extremely hard to teach them  a new language, how to farm, and ho to adjust. I think that would be harder than they think.  In all it was a great plan but it was not a success...yet. If the Maimafu tribe were to start to raise money to send one out at a time and work with them would work better in my mind.

         Over the years humanity has gone places nobody thought was possible, we have learned the internet and technology and learned how to use it to our advantage, but as seen in “A Vision of Students Today” that could either be a good thing or bad thing. In the video “A Vision of Students Today” it shows what young adults from Kansas University really use their electronics for. Many of the students don’t use their computer, Ipads, cell phones, etc. for studying. The young adults in this video spend hundreds of dollars for books. Most of the very expensive books they won’t open more than once, and if not used than the money is just wasted. So the smart idea would just to use the internet, correct? Well with all the distractions you have on the internet it seems as if you won’t get any work done anyway. What could we as the people of the future do to succeed as smart talented individuals, because what we have been doing hasn’t been working for many people apparently.

         Through the video I realized that technology for school doesn’t always work as expected. People don’t use the internet for the proper use for school, instead people choose to check facebook and twitter and all the messaging sites. I think that the best way to learn is the old fashion chalk board way with occasionally the use of a computer. By doing that I think that the people will keep on task better and not get as easily distracted. For the expensive book issue I think that buying the books would be better and worth it, I think it would be better because there is less distraction. Sure the books are pricy but that’s why you are going to college, to pay for an education. To be honest I think that people should only use their computer at home so they can do what they want there on their own time and focus on getting their education. Why would you want to waist the thousands of dollars just to not show up for what you paid for?    

Favorite movie as a child

Everybody has a favorite movie as a child, it could be anywhere from toy story to some outrageous action movie. For me, my personal favorite movie was "spy kids". Spy kids is about two brothers and sisters who had parents as spy's, so most of the time their parents weren't home because they had spy things to take care of. Juni (main character also the brother) and Carmen (main character also the sister) decide they want to be like there parents as spy's. Juni and Carmen were sent to different countries to live but because events that happened to the parents they join together again. Through their adventure Juni and Carmen experience a brotherly sisterly bonding mixed with dangerous situations. With the spy blood running through their veins nothing is impossible. Although it can get a little tricky the have highly advanced spy technology that can help them out. This movie is every kids dream, and will keep your eyes glued to the t.v.
